ARTIST PHILIP HITCHCOCK ANNOUNCES STUNNING FOLLOW-UP TO SELL-OUT SHOW

"RESTRAINING ORDER... NO CLOSER THAN 500 YARDS."
Santa Monica CA, May, 1998- On the heels of his overwhelmingly successful exhibit in Long Beach, "Medieval/ Millennial," Philip Hitchcock announces his latest effort, "RESTRAINING ORDER... NO CLOSER THAN 500 YARDS," a sculptural exhibit exploring mental and physical bondage.
The exhibition will hang from August 1, 1998 through September 28, 1998 at HIGHWAYS visual arts gallery. Witnesses may view the exhibit from 10:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday and
before performances Thursday through Sunday between 6:30 and 8:30pm. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, August 1, 1998 between 6:30 and 8:30 pm.
"I see beauty in frustration and confinement," says Hitchcock, "because out of it comes release and freedom."
Indeed the exhibit explores the layers of obstacles we place upon ourselves and those placed upon us by circumstance. As a metaphor for these hurdles the artist portrays life size figures bound and shackled in in perfectly placed ropes and studied restraint. One figure with a seven foot iron wingspan symbolizes the frustration of thwarted potential; for flight, with tattered iron wings, is impossible.
The artist plans 9 new sculptures for the exhibit which will hang for the two month festival ECCE LESBO/ ECCE HOMO this summer at HIGHWAYS. HIGHWAYS is located @ 1651 18th Street in Santa Monica. (310) 453-1755.
